Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo CastiglioniRead Bio
With its name derived from toy, The Toio Floor Lamp is designed to stir the imagination, incorporating equipment-style elements in whimsical yet practical fashion.
Its hexagonal nickel-plated brass stem is held by an enamel steel base and fitted with fishing rod rings that guide the cord from the bulb down to the transformer. Stem height is adjustable. The base has a cleat resembling those found on boats, for neatly coiling any extra cord length. The included LED PAR 56 bulb at the top provides indirect lighting and evokes the lamp's inspiration, a car headlight.

About Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
Achille Castiglioni - The life and career of Achille Castiglioni, bears witness to the preeminence of Italian postwar design and its relationships with architecture on one hand and industry on the other. Like many of his compatriots, it is via architecture that Achille Castiglioni came to design and it is through direct relations with industry that he was able to realize his daily-use objects that have accompanied the modern way of life.
Pier Giacomo Castiglioni received numerous prizes and awards, including the “Compasso d’Oro” in 1955, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1967, 1979. He exhibited at every Milan Triennale from 1940 on, winning many awards. For the latter, based on the theme “Leisure time, living time”, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni was a member of the Executive Committee. His works have been displayed and are currently being exhibited at museums worldwide.

FLOS was founded in 1962. The very same year FLOS lighting began producing a number of lamps that were to become classics in Italian industrial design. From the very outset, FLOS has been distinguished by its high quality approach to lamp design and production. Many of the numerous lamps designed for FLOS are undoubtedly some of the best-known and most successful products of industrial design. They have won awards and historical-critical accolades, and are included in all the most important collections and design museums around the world. Some significant product examples over the last forty years are: Parentesi (1970), Brera (1992), Fucsia (1996), Rosy Angelis (1994), the Romeo Moon (1996), Archimoon (1998) series and the recent Diabolo (1998). Throughout the nineties the work of Achille Castiglioni and Philippe Starck has been flanked by a series of products from new and other designers. This reflects a desire to keep the attitude to discover the most talented designers to maintain FLOS leadership in innovation.

Outstanding design. Arrived in poor condition with a defective dimmer, bent stem, and broken transformer box. I have been waiting for six months for replacement parts.

I hope they fix the dimming issue. Its a cool fixture but not worth the headache of trying to figure things out. Customer service/Claims was the worse in trying to solve the problem or send it back.
